Building a Life Team for Your Focus and Motivation

We are a lot more like animals than robots. You cannot program a human apart from their relationships. You can’t drop a new chip in me and get me to do something. You’ve got to finesse my emotions, my relationships and my environment. As highly social creatures we deeply impact and affect each other.

Then why does it feel like I was taught to be so independent and individualistic to get to where I want to go?

​I don’t know the answer to that, but I know this: We need each other.

One of my favorite topics to speak on is building a Life Team. A group of people that you have in your life that inspire you because frankly, they are further down the road than you are. They could be friends or people you hire. Anything from a buddy who’s crushing it in business, to a nutritionist, to a therapist. How do you pick who you need?

Take a moment and imagine your future a year from now. What’s there that you don’t have right now? Got it in your head? Good. Now before you go and make a SMART goal and ask someone to hold you accountable (ugh) why don’t we go a different route?

WHO do you know who’s already killing it in that area and how can you get around them more?

Seriously, we are so contagious. If you want to eat healthier, hang out with people who eat healthier. Watch the choices they make… be amazed that they can survive without a chocolate dessert after most meals.

Your life team is yours to build and own. I can tell you that the value of strategically putting the right people in your life will be far more powerful than setting a goal and trying to “go it alone.”
